Why do i need to take Vitamin D?
Vitamin D helps to regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate in your body.
Vitamin D may also help increase muscle strength.

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that is naturally present in a small amount of foods, in fortified foods and available as a dietary supplement.
Vitamin D is both a nutrient we eat and a hormone our bodies make.
The body also manufactures vitamin D from cholesterol, through a process triggered by the action of sunlight on skin.
Daily exercise assists in the production of Vitamin D.
Food Sources
Few foods are naturally rich in vitamin D. Some foods containing Vitamin D are;

Mushrooms - Just like humans, mushrooms can synthesise Vitamin D vitamin when exposed to UV light. However, mushrooms produce vitamin D2, unlike animals which produce vitamin D3. Although vitamin D2 does help raise blood levels of vitamin D, it may not be as effective as vitamin D3.

• October to the end of March adults and children over 5 years of age require support from Vitamin D supplements as we do not get enough sunlight on us in some parts of Europe. However if you find that all year round you are not outside often or are in a care home, were cloths that cover up a lot of your skin when you are outside or do not eat the small amount of foods that do contain vitamin D, you may benefit from taking a vitamin D supplement all year round.
• 2000iu = 50mcg of Cholecalciferol, also known as vitamin D₃. Do not exceed any daily recommendation.
IU stands for International units and is a unit commonly used in the measurement of medications, vaccines and vitamins.
